It has just been announced that effective April 1, 2010 Maui Jim will be removing the ST Thin Glass Material from it’s prescription sunglass program. There are numerous reasons for this decision but the largest one, according to MJ, boils down to the consumer. In the announcement it is stated that, “Consumers today are demanding lighter, thinner, and more impact resistant prescription lenses. No material can deliver these benefits better than Maui Evolution 1.60″.

Maui Jim’s Evolution material offers the following:

• 4 color choices, Grey, Bronze, Rose and Maui HT
• Single Vision or Progressive Lens Styling
• High Abbe Value for Excellent Optics and Clarity
• Low Specific Gravity, lightweight and Comfortable
• Outstanding Scratch, Impact and Solvent Resistance
• Available in 6 and 8 Base frames and most Drill Mounts

For most folks this announcement will have little to no impact. If however you are a die hard fan of the Maui Jim glass lenses and want them in a prescription correction act fast. After April 1 they’ll be a thing of the past.

Please note, the ST Glass Lens will remain an important part of their plano sunglass program.
